North Delivery Team steps up to clean up

As Sydney Water's Northern Delivery Team, taking care of our environment and community is important to us. So, when the annual environmental campaign Business Clean Up Australia Day rolled around, naturally, we were keen to get behind the initiative.

Championed by our Environment & Sustainability Business Partner Emma Hale, across six separate North Delivery Team sites, over 80 people rolled up their sleeves to collect rubbish.

"It so great to see so many people across the business embracing the "step up to clean up" campaign," she said.

"Whether it was the frontline staff at our treatment plants and construction sites or our office-based teams at Chatswood, the North really stepped up to the challenge."

NDT Project Manager John Dransfield said participating in Business Clean Up Day was a "no-brainer". Over 40 members of his team grabbed hessian sacks and cleaned up their Northmead worksite and the adjacent dog park.

"We briefed everyone at the pre-start and split into assigned areas across the site and adjacent dog park for 30 minutes of clean up."

"We're always keen to get involved; it's simply the right thing to do," he said.

A job well done

Project Manager Nick Morton said Business Clean Up Day is part of the North Head Wastewater Treatment Plant's annual calendar.

"When Emma asked me to lead the North Head clean up this year, I knew the team would be keen to get involved," he said.

"The recent upgrades to walking tracks around North Head have meant more visitors and more litter, so we walked the popular tracks and picked up any litter left behind."

North Head electrician Chad Andrews was one of the cleanup team.

"A lot of the bushland is still recovering following bushfires, so it felt good to clean it up and see the native flora and fauna returning," Chad said.

At Chatswood, several office staff ventured out to pick up rubbish at local Ferndale Park. Senior Document Controller Kat Free was one of them.

"We all live, work and play on this land, and we should keep it clean not only for us but for the flora and fauna which also call it home," she said.

"Clean-up day is a great reminder to make taking care of the environment part of our every day."

Thank you to Emma and the NDT Environmental team for organising the day and our Northmead, North Head, Chatswood, Pymble, Upper Parramatta and Hornsby Heights teams for getting involved.
