Small actions, big impact
One of our project teams working in Sydney's North West went above and beyond to care for our community and keep one of our many Sydney Water customers at the heart.
The North Delivery Team is installing a new water main along a critical road in Sydney's northwest. At 2.3 kilometers long, the installation is a big job. So with crews on-site working from Monday to Friday, they soon garnered a spectator. Indeed the project had caught the attention of Asquith resident Chris. The young man with a passion for construction stopped to observe the project and was captivated by our team's work to install the pipe.
Adam Flynn, Director of our delivery partner Pipeline Install NSW noticed Chris' interest and warmly introduced himself. Inspired by Chris' excitement and eagerness to learn, Adam was keen to find ways to safely include him in the action. With the team's support, Adam invited Chris to attend the project's pre-start meetings at 6:45 am each day. He also gifted Chris some personal protective equipment (PPE), including a high visibility uniform, safety boots and a hard hat with the title, 'Champion Supervisor".
Thrilled to be part of the team working in his neighbourhood, Chris now wears his PPE with pride as he observes the construction works from a safe distance.
Touched by the crew's kindness, Chris' mother expressed her gratitude to the team, saying, "it is the best thing that could ever happen to Chris,'' and that "it makes his day every day you are here".
We are proud to say this is one of many real-life examples of our team keeping the customer at heart to form meaningful relationships in the communities we work.
Great work to our delivery partners at Pipeline Install NSW and our broader project team for making this happen.
