Confluence Water graduates dive deep into operations

At Confluence Water, we are committed to providing immersive, hands-on learning experiences that equip our graduates with real-life experience in the water industry.

Recently, Tom Burns, our Program Delivery Director, and Janice Tier, our Workforce Diversity & Inclusion Advisor, led a series of insightful site tours for our new engineering graduates.

The tours included visits to three pivotal facilities: Sydney Water's Purified Recycled Water Plant, the Prospect Water Filtration Plant (WFP), and the North Head Wastewater Treatment Plant. These sites are essential components of our comprehensive water management cycle.

Suzana Doha, currently in her first rotation with the Design Team, shared her thoughts on the experience at the Prospect WFP.

"The depth of the filtration process was incredible, from the initial pre-treatment of raw water to its eventual storage in water tanks for use by Sydney Water," she remarked.

She was particularly impressed by the innovations at the Pilot Plant.

"The Pilot Plant operates like a small-scale version of a full-sized Water Filtration Plant, allowing the team to test different processes without affecting the main system. Successful methods can then be scaled up and applied more broadly," explained Suzana.

Tom Burns highlighted the importance of in-person experience.

"In-person experience is vital for our graduates, merging theoretical knowledge with practical application.”

"They witness firsthand the cutting-edge technologies and processes we manage daily and are provided with great insights of the opportunities available to be involved in complex multi-disciplinary projects as they develop their careers with us,” he said.

"By immersing our graduates in diverse, real-world environments, we not only equip them with real-life experience - but we give them a more holistic understanding of water operations, which they will take into their future roles within the industry."

We extend our thanks to Tom Burns and Janice Tier for orchestrating these valuable experiences, and to our graduates for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning and growth.
