This November, the North Delivery Team (NDT) has proudly advocated for men's health, marking Movember and International Men's Day (IMD) with a series of impactful events.

Tom Burns, NDT Delivery Director and Executive Sponsor for the NDT Men’s Health Network emphasised the significance of IMD: "IMD is an important opportunity for frank, open dialogues about the unique health challenges men encounter and foster a judgement-free zone for sharing."

NDT orchestrated a range of engaging activities including morning teas, BBQs, and educational sessions at multiple locations—Chatswood, Pymble, Eastern Creek, North Head, Oakville, West Hornsby, and Northmead— emphasising the importance of creating a stigma-free environment for resource sharing and nurturing a culture of support and awareness.

"Events like these are key in dismantling stereotypes, igniting purposeful discussions, and emphasising the importance of both mental and physical health in a comfortable and inclusive environment, which is something we really lack in the construction industry," noted Tom.

Movember's iconic moustache theme was embraced with vigour, bringing attention to critical issues like prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health.

The theme added a light-hearted element to these issues, with Mechanical Supervisor Tony Dato notably shaving his 40-year-old moustache as a gesture of solidarity.

Tony reflected, "The impact of mental health issues on families is profound. It's personal for me, and I understand the importance of these life-saving conversations."

Mick Gardner, the Construction Superintendent, played a memorable role by shaving Tony’s moustache at the IMD BBQ in Northmead.

"Looking in the mirror after, I couldn't help but have a bit of a laugh and say, 'Wow, who's that young bloke?' It’s a big change, but I hope it reminds people to talk about their feelings,” Tony said.

The month of Men’s Health activities finished with a moustache contest at the year-end Northerly Connection event. Rob Nutter, David Pinto, Rohan Smith, and Nick Hansen took to the stage to be judged on their November mo growth, Rob took the win, stealing the trophy for best moustache.

As the month concludes, Tom Burns reflects, "Our commitment to men's health is not just for November. We're committed to fostering an ongoing conversation and ensuring support is always within reach, as part of our #cultureofcare ethos."

NDT extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to these meaningful initiatives.
