Our 2022 ‘Season of Giving’
As Sydney Water's Northern Delivery Team (NDT), caring for one another, our environment and our community are important to us. To help support vulnerable people in our community, over December 2022, we asked our colleagues to help us foster a 'Season of Giving' by collecting items to donate. A month on, we're excited to share the results.
The North recognises that the festive season can be difficult for many, so over December, NDT collected items to donate to three Australian charities to help better the lives of others.
This year, the charities we collected for included:
Acts of Kindness - a not-for-profit that supports Sydney's homeless community and provides regular meal services.
Share the Dignity - a not-for-profit that takes donations of women's essential items and distributes them in bags to women in need.
Magic Moments - a not-for-profit organisation that reaches and assists people often forgotten by society.
How did we do?
Over December, NDT donated enough food for Acts of Kindness Community Outreach to provide 70 meals (dinner and dessert) to homeless people living around Woolloomooloo near the Sydney CBD.
Environment & Sustainability Business Partner Emma Hale, and champion of NDT charity work, spent a few hours volunteering at an Acts of Kindness Community Outreach meal service along with her two children, Georgia (12) and Euan (10).
During our Season of Giving, NDT gathered essential personal hygiene items such as shampoo and conditioner, a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, period products, and soap for Share the Dignity's #Itsinthebag campaign. The North donated enough to fill twenty bags, all given to women and girls in domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters or the needy over Christmas.
Finally, the North also managed to gather and donate thirty brand new toys for Magic Moments. The toys were gift-wrapped and given to Australian children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
What's next?
New year, new you? If you've recently cleaned out your wardrobe, chances are you've got some pieces of career clothing you no longer wear. If they're well-made pieces with plenty of life left, bring them to Work until March 8, and we will donate them to Dress for Success and Dress for Work.
Dress for Success is a global not-for-profit organisation that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of
support, professional attire and styling, development tools and workshops to help them thrive.
Dress for Work provides quality clothing and job readiness training for boys and men who have experienced setbacks so that they can take back control of their lives. Along with attire, the charity provides one-on-one job readiness training to prepare participants for successful employment opportunities.
Collection points for the North are on level 3 at our Chatswood office, the Pymble depot and North Head, and close COB Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
Please note - both charities only accept items in excellent condition. If you wouldn't wear it to a job interview, or if it is stained, ripped or shapeless – please don't donate it.
